TUF Tennis Launches Green Courts Initiative to Promote Sustainable Tennis Playing Surfaces
On July 21, 2024, TUF Tennis unveiled its “Green Courts” initiative, aiming to revolutionize tennis court construction with eco-friendly materials. The initiative was launched in partnership with environmental organizations and aims to reduce the sport’s carbon footprint significantly.
The Green Courts are made from recycled materials and designed to have a lower environmental impact than traditional hard court surfaces. These new courts offer similar bounce and play characteristics to conventional hard courts but require less water and no pesticides or herbicides for maintenance.
“The Green Courts initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability,” explained Sandra Lee, Director of TUF Tennis’s Environmental Strategy. “We believe it’s vital to mitigate environmental impacts wherever possible, and with Green Courts, clubs and players can enjoy the game while knowing they’re contributing to a greener planet.”
TUF Tennis has committed to installing over 200 Green Courts worldwide by the end of 2025, with several high-profile tennis academies and sports complexes already signing up to participate in the program.
